Jennifer Lawrence is an actress best known for her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Game movie franchise. This is now, however, how she got her start. Jennifer has always been a performer of some kind. Originally from a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky, she would perform in shows at her school and church. When Jennifer was 14 years old, she was founded by a talent scout (agent) in New York City on a trip out to the Big Apple with her mom (Sacks). Jennifer’s first major role was in The Bill Engvall Show as Bill’s oldest daughter (Eells).
One of the reasons why Jennifer has such a large and loyal fan base is because she is unapologetically herself. Do you remember when she fell going up the stairs at the 2013 Oscars after winning ‘Best Actress’ in Silver Lining’s Playbook? She laughed it off. She basked in the moment of it happening. Of course something like this would happen to her. And of course, this is partly which she is so relatable. There are many people in Hollywood that we respect for their talent and beauty, but at the end of the day, they seem untouchable to us. These people seem to live on an entirely another planet. Jennifer is someone who we can love, respect, become floored by her beauty and talent, but then approach and grab a beer with at the end of the day. She is the person you feel comfortable approaching because she is so honest. Jennifer is everyone’s long distance best friend.
Jennifer is not only a relatable person, but also a fellow feminist and gender equality activist who stands up for women’s rights (Heldman). The biggest issues she voices her opinion about are the fat shaming of women in Hollywood, and the gender pay gap between female and male actors in Hollywood (Heldman). The latter is what she has penned a very well-known essay about in 2014, which will be the main topic and focus of my webpage. Jennifer uses her smarts, her sass, and her wit in order to bring this topic to the surface and voice her opinion on being compensated less than her male costars.
